Want Those Stretch Marks to Go Away?

Stretch marks are right up there with cellulite in one of the most unwanted and fretted over body imperfections of adulthood. They most often happen to women, but they can also happen to men. Neither sex likes to see the white or purple discolorations on their body reminding them of a trauma or weight gain and weight loss they endure.

Getting stretch marks to go away can prove a difficult and time consuming task. Thankfully, we live in a day and age where there have been several high tech advancements in cosmetics and corrective techniques, lotions and creams. With time and a little discipline, you can actually get these embarrassing "war wounds" to almost completely disappear.
One of the more expensive ways to help getting rid of stretch marks is to visit a dermatologist for various therapies that can help reduce them fairly quickly. However, use caution if this is the path you choose. The only treatment offered in most cosmetic surgeon and dermatologist officers is laser treatment.
Some say that laser treatment really is not effective in reducing the appearance of these damaged tissues. Why? It is because lasers generally are used to remove or reduce tissues, not to repair them. Getting stretch marks to go away generally should involve some method of repair rather than blasting away layers of skin in an effort to make them disappear.
Because these marks are really damage that goes several layers deep in to the skin, laser therapy may not be effective in making them go away. IPL, or Intense Pulsed Light Therapy may be a more viable option. It has shown some success in helping reduce their appearance. UV light therapy has been promising for the treatment of the streaky white types.
IPL may have more success than laser therapy in removing stretch marks because it has a healing effect on the skin. It can penetrate several layers deep, and the heat combined with the healing power of the light helps tissue to regenerate more quickly. Some believe that red light therapy also may help improve their appearance.
If you are looking for a treatment you can do in your own home, there are some excellent creams that you can use. You've probably already heard that using shea butter or cocoa butter can help prevent the deeper skin layers from tearing during periods of weight gain such as pregnancy. Extremely emollient creams like this can not only help prevent, but can also help minimize them.
The act of rubbing cream into your skin alone has a healing effect on the tissue which can help your stretch marks "blend" into your normal skin more easily. Massage skin helps to increase circulation, which speeds healing and helps the skin to look more uniform and supple.
Patients with red or raised scars are usually instructed to massage their prescription scar creams in for several minutes. The reason for this is the smoothing, healing effect that massage has on the skin. This helps flatten out raised areas, and can help with your stretch mark reduction regimen as well.
Whatever your choice of cream if you do choose to treat them at home, the massaging is what really helps them to go away. Of course, it is important that you choose a good stretch mark reduction product as well. However, simply massaging on a consistent basis helps reduce their appearance. Twice daily massage can dramatically improve your results.
