Tips for Ebony Makeup

Ebony skin is a makeup canvas. Ebony is a deep brown color, similar to the hue of mahogany wood or rich soil. Like all other women, those with an ebony skin tone must choose makeup that complements the complexion. Makeup is expressive like art and, fortunately, there's room for experimentation. With brown skin as the canvas, makeup artists and novices ought to spend time finding just right products for creating looks that are ebony beautiful.

Moisture is key for glowing ebony skin. Skin that's supple and moist will provide a smooth base for makeup application. Use a moisturizer from any skin care line. But be careful with those that contain SPF, since it can sometimes leave a sheer white tint that looks chalky on ebony skin.
Deep ebony skin tones are usually out of range for drug store makeup brands when it comes to foundation and concealer. Ebony makeup should begin with a high-quality foundation that matches the skin tone flawlessly. Look to high-end department store brands for a wider range of colors. Also, pay attention to areas on the face, such as near the nose, mouth or forehead, where there are variations in the color brown. Concealer in these areas will even out the complexion. For a perfect finish, blend together two foundations until the desired coverage has been achieved.
Makeup in general is mass-produced to suit the masses. This means that many popular makeup lines feature colors, shades and hues that aren't suitable to deep brown skin. Before applying an eye or lip color, test the shade on the back side of the hand. If it's flattering, proceed. If not, try combining it with another shade or simply choose another. The same clothing colors that flatter brown skin, such as deep purple, red or burgundy also work well for the face.
Just as blush and bronzer give fair skin a flush of color, highlighting certain areas on ebony skin can give more dimension and depth to the face. Golden powder, cream or stick highlighters can be dabbed onto the apples of cheeks, beneath the brown bone and down the center of the nose. This keeps these areas of the face from falling flat or appearing washed out.
