How to Keep Synthetic Hair Looking Fresh and Not Tangled

 With proper care and maintenance, synthetic hair can look fresh and tangle free. Wigs, hair pieces or hair extensions made from synthetic hair are more cost effective than their human hair counterparts. However, synthetic hair does get tangled easily, and it can start to look dull if you fail to properly care for it. There are ways, however, you can use to keep synthetic hair looking fresh, frizz free and tangle free.

Add a capful of synthetic hair shampoo to cold water. Never use hot water, as it can damage synthetic hair. Wash synthetic hair every four to six wears rather than after every wear.

Place the hair in the water and leave it to soak for three to five minutes. Once properly soaked, gently swirl the hairpiece around in the water; this will help to remove any dust or dirt that has accumulated in the hair. Do not scrub the hairpiece or you will cause it to tangle.

Remove the water containing the shampoo and replace it with clean water. Rinse the hair in the clean water to remove the shampoo. Take the hairpiece out of the water and gently dry it with a towel. Do not rub or twist the hair with the towel, but rather pat the hair dry.

Spray the hair with a leave-in conditioner, once you have removed all excess water, to prevent tangling and make the hair softer. Place the hairpiece on a wigstand or a towel, and allow it to air dry. Never use hot styling tools such as a hairdryer to quicken the drying process, as it will damage the hair.

Style the hair immediately once you have washed and dried it, in order to keep it looking fresh. Go through the hair with your fingers to gently loosen any tangles. Then take a comb and begin brushing the hair gently, starting at the ends and then working up to the roots. If the hairpiece is curly or wavy, a wide-toothed comb will work best and will prevent any excess frizzing.

Keep the hair piece on a wig stand or in a suitable box when you're not wearing it. To keep the hairpiece looking fresh between washes and wears, spritz it with a synthetic hair sheen spray or conditioner. The spray or conditioner will help to smooth the hair, reduce frizz, prevent tangling and keep it soft.
