Have your hair cut short on the sides, with a longer strip down the middle of your head. Tell the stylist you plan to wear your hair in a fohawk style.
Wash your hair every other day instead of every day. Hair that is slightly dirty, with a bit of styling product left over, will stand up better than freshly washed hair.
Work a texturizing styling paste through your hair. Look for one that leaves behind little strands of fiber when you put a dab on your fingers and pull your fingers apart.
Smooth down the sides of your hair with your hands or a comb. Pull the hair on top straight up with your hands, pushing any loose strands up toward the fohawk.
Spritz your fohawk with a liberal application of hairspray. If necessary, blow-dry the hair on top of your head while pulling it straight up to help keep its shape.
